Unfortunately, Americans and the British will never get it right.
The number of place names that Americans mispronounce is large.
The world suspects it's a problem with their educational system.
So, if you're an American, everyone will still expect you to still call it Turkey.
And to call Tijuana "Ti-a- wana".
And to call Las Vegas "Loss-Vegus"
And to call New York "New Yawk"
..and to drive the point home...
The capital of France is pronounced "Pear-ee"
Our 50th state is pronounced "Ha-va-ee" not "Hi-wa-ya"
and the list goes on...
