When I saw that Oreo had a new flavor out called "Fried Dough" I figured I had to give it a try. They were also rerunning a previous flavor, Apple Pie Ala Mode, which wasn't very good, so I skipped that.
The idea behind these Fried Dough Oreos is, one can only assume, to recapture the flavor of the popular fair/carnival treat. Those are regular Oreos that get dipped in batter and deep fried.
These...are NOTHING like those.
What Oreo has done here...I'm hoping unintentionally...is make a really awful cookie.
The Fried Dough Oreo has two cookies that are terribly bland shortbread surrounding three "slices" of their icing. The icing is done right, at least, in that its two slices of chocolate cream sandwiching one slice of vanilla cream. This is done to make the cream filling in the cookie look like an Oreo with the awful shortbread standing in for the fried batter.
So this is a "triple stuffed" cookie...that just happens to taste pretty crappy.
If you like shortbread then this might be for you. I certainly don't...so it ain't.
