It's one of the little countertop models and has served me well throygh many hot summers, making ice off grid using plug and play solar generator.
It was very hot.
After it cooled it started back up but I noticed the radiator fan wasnt running. It is a 12v brushless DC fan. It sort of kicked when it was supposed to come on and got warm so I knew it was getting power but just not running. I cut the wires and removed it and took the fan apart by removing a sticker, a little dust cap, and a plastic retaining c clip. I tried resoldering all the connections and it still wouldnt run and the only part other than the coils (which tested good) is a small chip that looks like a transistor with four legs.
I sent a picture of the back of the board to Google Gemini AI which properly identified the circuit board exact function from the photo alone. I explained the troubleshooting I had done and it tells me its a.very common chip and most brushless DC fan motors use the dame chip even though they have different part numbers on the chip.
I took apart a CPU cooler fan. Sure enough, even though the fan was a different size the circuit layout was the same and it had the sane sort of 4 pin chip (a hall effect sensor for motor timing and power switches to energize the coils). The AI said the part numbers are compatible so I unsoldered both and put the CPU fan chip in the icemaker fan. Connected the fan to the truck battery (12vdc) and it works great.
20 year old ice maker running strong on a hot day... one cpu cooler fan for the trash.
