How to deal with time burglars

There are neighbors at my complex who when I see them, they latch onto me and tell me stories. They stories go on and on.
But then while they are telling me a story, it breaks off into another story. And then when it's done they say just one more story...
These stories are pointless and very boring and the process takes about 20-40 minutes.
I never say a word fearing it could trigger more stories.
Sometimes I stay inside to avoid this and miss important things.
