Text ads on CL = $10K/month for charity< ThatAdamGuy >
I'd like to see unobtrusive text ads on selected CL pages, with the revenues going predominantly to charity (arts in underprivileged schools would be my first choice) and partially to CL infrastructure.
I believe that CL could easily make $10,000 per month from AdSense text ads, even if such ads were placed on the bottom of only individual-entry pages. Heck, even if CL just put small ads like this or really tiny ads like this on the bottom of dating entries, I'd think CL could raise a lot of moolah.
I'm aware that many people LIKE having CL ad-free, and while I don't really care about text ads one way or the other, I respect that preference. With that said, I DO care a lot about various social issues (such as arts in schools) and see the potential for CL to provide a huge amount of rather painless funding for such causes.
What are your thoughts? Are you wholly opposed to any advertising on CL? Or would you be comfortable with text ads? And if the latter, in what areas of CL or under what circumstances?
Lastly, I'd like to emphatically note that I do not work for Google and I have no affiliation with AdSense other than as someone who has AdSense ads on their blog. I'd be just as happy for CL to use any text-ad options, but AdSense is what I'm most familiar with.
I'm eager to see if others share my thoughts on this subject, or if most folks think I'm nuts to even contemplate ads on CL :D.
